Suspension

Book Free Suspension Check

The suspension system is a vital part of a vehicle; it has a direct impact on the steering, road holding and braking capabilities of the car.

On the suspension system there are many moving parts, the main component of which is rubber that can dry out over a period of time and can crack and perish. In the worst situation the rubber components can split.

You may be able to recognise when a component has become defective, some of the effects could be:

Symptoms

  • When pulling away from a standstill a knocking noise may occur from the front of the vehicle.
  • When travelling along uneven surfaces, i.e. speed humps or bumpy roads, once again a knocking noise may be heard from either end of the vehicle and the ride in the vehicle may be an uncomfortable one.
  • On a straight road, i.e. a motorway, if one side at the front of the vehicle there is a defective component, the vehicle will drift or pull to the defective side.

An important part of the suspension is the shock absorbers, these are usually hydraulic or gas filled. They are essential to control the bounce on the vehicle and to ensure the tyres are kept firmly on the road. Damaged and worn shock absorbers can reduce the braking efficiency, cause poor cornering and tyre wears.

It is very important to have regular checks on your vehicle, whether it is every 6 or 12 months, to ensure that the ride comfort and suspension system are kept at an optimum level. The suspension system is fully checked over as part of our routine servicing to make sure that you remain as safe and comfortable as possible. With all our technicians being highly trained and fully experienced you can rest assured that you and your vehicle are in safe hands.

Free suspension checks and advice are available from our trained technicians, just call in or contact us.

I used Harrow Service Centre for the first time for a service and MOT - I am always wary of trying new places for car servicing having been treated poorly elsewhere previously - and was pleasantly surprised. HSC were very friendly, helpful, professional and the service provided seemed thorough and good value.

Great service provided when I gave them my car... for a service. They were luckily able to accommodate a relatively rush booking on my part and carried out the service very professionally. Pricing was a little bit more than I expected but also seems to be competitively proved for London and the service was very professional and smooth so would use them again.read more

Had done my car serviced from HSC in March'24 and... I have been really happy with their service. Kept me informed if anything else needs to be done which would incurred the cost. Vehicle was returned after service on the same day. Will definitely recommend HSC for vehicle service.read more

Trusted mechanics are very hard to come by but... when you find one you’ll travel for their services. I’m not local to Harrow but still bring my car here. Customer service, price and quality of work is beyond 5 stars. I bought my car in for a brake fluid change which was completed within the time declared. My rear parking sensor was slightly out of place within the bumper and asked if possible could they bring it back in place whilst on the ramp and it was very kindly done at no extra cost. Thank you Harrow Service Centre always a pleasure 😀.read more

The sound system was water damaged. The... replacement part cost over £1,000 and £250 for Volvo to enable communication to the speakers . The work was carried out well and communication about timescales was good. However, in hindsight, I would have liked to have seen the box of the replacement part and the old component that was replaced.read more
